This is why I don't bake very often

I saw this link posted on Facebook last week, and was intrigued by the recipe for Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies. (Warning, do not click on that link unless you don't mind some pretty crude language!) For those who want to watch it, it's mildly entertaining. For those who don't, the recipe is as follows:

BACON CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
2/3 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. white sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 c. chocolate chips

Mix together the first 5 ingredients, then add in the dry ingredients and mix well before stirring in the bacon and chocolate chips. Bake at 350 F for 8-10 minutes.

Ever since seeing that video, I just knew I had to try these out, even though they sound absolutely repulsive. So I followed the recipe (but only used 1 tsp. vanilla) and before I added the bacon and chocolate chips, I split the cookie mixture into two bowls. I added 4 slices of bacon (crumbled up) to one bowl, and in the other bowl I added 1/3 c. Craisins and about 2 tsp. of freshly grated ginger. I figured I'd just go out on a limb here and see what kinds of horrible things could be done to a classic recipe.
(The ones on the left are bacon and the ones on the right are ginger/Craisin)

Surprisingly, they are both pretty darn good. I wouldn't rant and rave about either of them, but they certainly aren't disgusting. The extra "goodies" in each recipe are fairly well-hidden, so it doesn't knock your socks off when you take a bite.

So why bother adding bacon to your cookies? I don't know. It would have come in handy when my daughter was 1 year old and only weighed 16 lbs. and the doctor told us to put her on a high-fat diet. Bacon cookies would have been much easier to feed her than baby cereal laced with cream and oil. But seeing as my children will eat bacon without any fuss whatsoever, it's not really something that needs to be hidden in their snacks.

I'm notorious for devouring whatever I bake within 24 hours, so I can pretty much guarantee that my tummy is going to feel a little rotten by tomorrow evening. This is why I don't bake very often. It's like I can't rest until every last crumb is gone. I also don't bake often because I'm just too darn curious in the kitchen, and I end up making things like bacon cookies when I should be folding laundry or reading a book. Darn bacon, it's just too tempting!

We are at the same point you were at with Oliver - he's almost 17 mos and 19 lbs. And PICKY. Meat is a no-no. Even when I hide it he fishes it out and ejects it. Bacon in cookies is where we are headed I think!
